    .45 ACP Revolver?

Some time ago I found a revolver on S&W's website, it looked a lot like the old model 1950, blue finish with wood grips, and was available in .45 ACP. I was just looking over their website tonight and couldn't find it, all I found was their 1917 clone and Thunder Ranch models. Anyone know which one I'm looking for and have any info on it? Also, any other quality manufacturers producing a revolver in .45 ACP?

    Thanks.

    Good luck.

I've been looking for a decent used one for about six months -

Everything out there - New or used is over $800

Turners has a used one on their GunRack for $500 - But it looks rough...

      Never mind. I found it.

$500? The seller is on crack. All collector value is gone. I wouldn't give $200 for it. Somebody might want it for parts. Hope they don't need a hammer.

If it had color case hardening on the frame and was also available in nickel, then it was frome their "Classics" series from a while back. Model 1950 revolver.

MSRP was +$1000 and they really have not come down in price too much.

I was just shooting one of mine the other day, a 625-3 model of 1989 5" barrel and really enjoyed it and was impressed again by it's accuracy and mild recoil for it's calibre. At my typical 10-12 yard "old eyes" distance it was real easy to keep the shots in the black. I like most quality handguns, but these big N-frame .45acp revolvers are truly one of my favorites. I tried out some Rimz polymer full-moon clips and they worked great for range use.

Model 25's in .45acp have been really rare up where I'm at; I havent seen one on consignment for years. Even though I have 6" and 6.5" model 25's as well as the 625 I'd buy another pre-lock for a fair price in a heartbeat. I've owned my Model 25's for 30+ years now; they were never really a high volume revolver or very common at the local gun shops as not too many people realized that you could use full-moon clips instead of half-moon clips and have very fast reloads; they were mainly purchased by bullseye shooters and combat shooters it seemed and everyone else buying N-frames bought them in .357, or 44mag and occasionally .41 mag.

You might be able to get one off the auction sites if you find one C&R, or have a dealer willing to convert one to single-action to make it roster exempt.

There are a number of .45acp revolvers from S&W on the roster if you wanted a new one, but of course they're all approximately $800-1,000. Of the current production on roster ones I'd pick the 4" 625 JM; I really like adjustable sights on these since the 45acp point of impact varies a bit depending upon what load and distance you're shooting and properly "regulating" a fixed sight model is sometimes a pain, although the fixed sight models certainly have a nostalgic appeal and charm.

Heres the models I found on the roster:

            625-8 JM SKU 160936 / Stainless Steel Revolver 4.12" .45 ACP 4/5/2012
