    Carry Question

    Hi,
Im going to the Eastern Sierras near the June Lake Loop on a trout fishing trip. Am i allowed to carry my 9mm while hikinig around to fish? Would i have to abide the open carry laws?

Found this in the CA firearms law book:

"Licensed hunters or fishermen while engaged in hunting or fishing, or while going to or returning from such hunting or fishing expeditions."

However, will i be in an area that will allow this?

    Thanks

    Per CA law [PC 12027(g)]...
While traveling to and from your fishing site, you can legally conceal carry an unloaded handgun with a valid fishing permit.
While you are fishing, you can legally conceal carry a loaded handgun with a valid fishing permit.

If the area you are fishing in and/or traveling through is unincorporated territory that allows the discharge of firearms, then it is legal to open carry a loaded handgun. [PC 12031(a)(1)]
Note that roads are prohibited areas, so you can not legally open carry a loaded handgun while on a road. But, you can legally open carry an unloaded handgun on a road, as long as you are not within a school zone.

    Penal Code 12027
Section 12025 does not apply to, or affect, any of the following:
    (g) Licensed hunters or fishermen carrying pistols, revolvers, or other firearms capable of being concealed upon the person while engaged in hunting or fishing, or transporting those firearms unloaded when going to or returning from the hunting or fishing expedition.

    Penal Code 12031
(a)(1) A person is guilty of carrying a loaded firearm when he or she carries a loaded firearm on his or her person or in a vehicle while in any public place or on any public street in an incorporated city or in any public place or on any public street in a prohibited area of unincorporated territory.
    (f) As used in this section, "prohibited area" means any place where it is unlawful to discharge a weapon.
