    Quick Question - Gophers

    Hey Guys,

Quick question, so we discovered that we have a gopher situation in our back yard. My wife said go get your gun & shoot it! She said she thought about getting her gun & shooting it herself. I'm like not if you don't want to have to cops come.

Can you guys confirm, we can't just discharge our guns in our backyard & shoot gophers can we haha? FYI - we're in SoCal - Irvine to be exact.

Go buy an Air Rifle! it will be fun and perfectly legal, you will be hunting at night as those are nocturnal.

within city limits? dont think so ... check local laws about shooting ... but for gophers just pick up a chlorine tab for pools , stick it in a hole and just add alot of water .. no more gophers ....

haha really? I'll have to try it... everyone who I talked to told me about getting a trap with metal wires & staked to the ground... etc etc...

I'm like there's gotta be an easier way.

I like the BB gun idea. Semi lethal, so you might have to do some extra work like 2 shots.

The chlorine pool tablet sounds nice too, but it will kill the grass and/or other plants.

At work we have burrowing rodent issues in levees.
For gophers we've blown them up with a Rodex 4000(propane/O2)
smoked them out with road flares,
used of the shelf gopher poison(smoke and pellets)
and even used my pesticide Lic. to purchase restricted use phostoxin (aluminum phosphide)
after all that,I've still found that the best most sure fire thing to do is to flood them out with a hose at dawn where you see the open burrows.

Shooting an air rifle in the backyard is also probably illegal. I would check it out before you get in trouble.

Aw heck, just go get the double barrel sawed off 12 gauge, fill it with 00buck, and shot away no one will care

In all seriousness, flood them out, then shoot them with a pellet gun.

.177 pellet gun will kill it first shot. Don't ask how I know.

Gopher traps work, open the gopher hole so you can place the trap, cover the hole with paper from a paper bag with a small hole in it. The gopher looks up the tunnel and sees light as being farther away than it really is and walks right into the trap.
Go to barber and get all the fresh cut hair you can get, stuff it in the gopher holes, they choke and die. A german idea from my old landlord, it works.
Do not discharge your guns in city limits.
Run a garden hose from your tail pipe, car or truck, run the other end to the gopher hole and run the engine for a little while.

If you have a .22 rifle, Aguila makes 2 different ammunition, one really super quiete and one quieter then a pellet gun.

Aguila .22 colibri rainbow colored box. 350fps and Aguila .22 super colibri 500fps they will not cycle a semi auto, the 350fps ammo you need to make sure the bullet left the barrel as sometimes they get stuck, cleaning rod to get them out.
