Lock requirement and springfield ILS

I went to the gun store to pay for and start the DROS on my new Springfield armory TRP operator. I did my paperwork and handed the guy all of my documents and everything was going well. At the end he handed me a paper showing me everything I need to bring with me when I come pick up the gun. On this paper it stated I needed to have a CA DOJ approved lock with receipt within the last 30 days. I thought the ILS on Springfield 1911s satisfied the fed and ca doj requirement for the lock. I asked the guy about this and he said it did not count and I need to purchase a lock.

I call bs because I didn't have to buy a lock for my SS TRP I bought a few years ago. The ILS was good to go then. Has something changed or does this guy not know what he's talking about? What documents can I bring him to prove to him the ILS counts? Thanks for the help

The Penal Code is

12087.6. As used in this article: (a) "Firearms safety device" means a device other than a gun safe that locks and is designed to prevent children and unauthorized users from firing a firearm. The device may be installed on a firearm, be incorporated into the design of the firearm, or prevent access to the firearm.

Tell us how that goes - but see them before pick-up day, so you know for sure whether the dealer will go along; it's cheaper to pick up a cable-lock, bring the lock and receipt with you, show both to the dealer. Then you leave and return the un-opened lock to where you bought it.

12088.1. (a) All firearms sold or transferred in this state by a licensed firearms dealer, including private transfers through a dealer, and all firearms manufactured in this state, shall include or be accompanied by a firearms safety device that is listed on the Department of Justice's roster of approved firearms safety devices and that is identified as appropriate for that firearm by reference to either the manufacturer and model of the firearm, or to the physical characteristics of the firearm that match those listed on the roster for use with the device.

"Include or be accompanied by" is the law, not "have installed on the gun".

I had to buy a lock when I picked up my SA Loaded.

GS FUD. Some know the law and some don't.

Picked up an SA loaded stainless last week, and once the clerk verified that the ILS on mine was functioning properly, I was free to go. No extra lock required.....

But you still need either a lock on the case, or need to lock it in a secure compartment (according to prk pc) in your vehicle to transport it home.

Did a couple of PPT's at ammo bros and they have stated that the ILS on the SA loaded 1911 is on the CA approved safety device list.

If it's a new gun, it should have had an included lock for it to be sold by a gun dealer, didn't it? If it is from out of state or a PPT, you have to have a newly purchased lock or evidence (Brand/Model/Serial Number) of your gun safe. Otherwise do what weekend_plinker said. They're $4-$5 and you are not required to lock the gun when you leave the store, so you don't even need to open the package.

Only works if you search by Device Mfg. Not in any of the four "Springfield" catagories in Firearm Mfg: Springfield, Springfield Armory, Springfield Armory Armory, or Springfiled.
