Beretta 92FS 9mm

Hey,

So I'm in the very early stages of considering purchasing a Beretta 92FS in 9mm.

I've pretty much decided that, unless told that I shouldn't for a good reason, I'll be getting one within the next couple of months, but I thought I'd throw out a thread and get your opinions. Now I just need to do more solid research on them, although I've already shot a friends and really liked it (his is .40 though)

I handled a few today and have shot a few also - I'm not a huge fan of how they feel, although the 9mm P226 today was giving me great grouping.

The Good:

Accurate
Very easy to rack
Reliable
Really nice to look at
Shoots almost any ammo

The Bad:
Placement of safety/decocker on the slide can be in the way during malfunction drills.
You could put the gun in safe mode when you would least want that to happen.

The front sight on a 92FS is part of the gun. Beretta saw the light on that one for the 92A1 and M9A1 and made the sights so they can be changed out. And the 92A1 and M9A1 are not on the roster.

There is no accessory rail. There is on the 92A1/M9A1.

The grip is large. Do try it on for size, rent one and shoot it and compare it with Glock,XD, M&P, and the Beretta PX4 for fit.

The Good/Bad
It weighs a lot. That is good for taming the recoil but bad for carry.
It's big - you're not going to conceal carry this beast but it gets a long sight radius because it is a long barrel.

If you get one, shoot it a bit then try changing out the mainspring for the one found on the 92D (or Wolff #16). Makes a world of difference on the double action pull.

I prefer other guns, but it is a well made weapon.

I hate Beretta's safety placement. But a decocker only model and limit the damage to minimal. It took me forever to find this piece:

Do try out the grip. Standard 92/96 FS' large grip was a problem for me. When it recoil, the end of the tail/frame will hit my thumb (metacarpophalangeal joint) pretty hard, and make it very difficult to shoot more than 2 mags. Vertec model's straight back strap, help a lot.

I heard some people don't like them because of the large grip. I love em and i have medium sized hands (med. sized gloves).

Go to the range, rent some guns and try em out. Every one feels different and you will find that you shoot better with some than others.

For me I like the 1911, 92FS, P226 in that order, just based on how they feel to me and how well i shoot with them.

Exactly what I was going to post ('cept I didn't just buy one lol).

Look in to the variants if you want something a little different. Inox(stainless), vertec (modified grip), Elite/EliteIa/EliteII, aniversary, A1, and a few others. Then there's the letter designations. D=DAO, G=Decocker only, no safety, and a couple others Im drawing a blank on.

92 is 9mm, and 96 is .40S&W. The frames are identical which makes the slides interchangable; for a while beretta even sold a kit with 2 slides so you could freely switch 9/40.

The new 92A1/96A1 are revisions that are a bit different, and not interchangable with the older models. They're off roster so if you want them you gotta take an exempt route.

Never shot one but a guard at my work Aka mp but what ever they are for navy I know they aren't mp but anyways... I have a really good relationship with a bunch of them and was shooting the sh*t with them and asked them how they like their m9s and would they rather have that or a glock. And they all simple said flock because most don't like the grip and say they aren't the most reliable in combat. I still love the look of the 92fs. But am noe a glock fan boy.


Also look at Taurus they have a m9 style hand gunwhich is pretty much the 92sf because they bought a beretta plant in brazil that made the 92. Good guns I think you might save some$$ as well going with Taurus.

Ah. It was the opposite for me when it came to the feeling. Though I love the aesthetics of the 92, I was just a better shot with the Sig and that's why I went with it. That's all that matters, IMHO.

One beautiful Piece.. Thats the one thing I love about the 92.. always sexy and mean looking. Glock is the ugly cousin haha
