AR Pistol Buffer Tube

So I've been searching the last couple days on google, here, and have found mixed answers. I also did not see this on the flow chart.
I'm building a single-shot AR pistol from an 80% receiver I milled, and I ordered http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct...tnumber=616773 from midway, and received it yesterday. It has an attachment on the back that can accept a stock. I don't have the stock nor will I order it, but could an LEO charge me with constructive nfa violation?

I hope not because that's a popular item, and I have one on my 80% pistol build as well. I think if you have the piece that does screw-in then you might have a problem but without it there's just a threaded hole in the end of the buffer. I'm not sure if the fact that it's sold as a "Pistol" tube should help if it ever ended up in a court, I know that standard is applied to the difference between a flash hider and muzzle brake but that's a CA issue, not a fed issue. I have one and I like it, I don't have the stock accessories that thread in and I think that is as safe as you can play it.

I would imagine if it is "designed" to accept a stock then technically it's a no no.

Well it's "designed" to accept a male threaded end, not to be a rifle stock. It's certainly marketed as a PISTOL buffer tube. I think if this was a big problem we'd have heard about it by now as this product has been selling for a while. I'm not interested in being the test case either but I can't believe this would creep up as a problem now with so many pistol owners using it.

We sell boatloads of these ACE pistol buffer kits. No one's been arrested yet that we've been made aware of. We also carry several other brands of pistol buffer tubes, plus a nice selection of rubber covers that are a more durable choice besides the standard foam sleeve that comes with the ACE kit.

ACE has, and may include, a statement that if you have one of their AR-UL stocks you may be in violation of NFA laws.

Also, I've had an FFL refuse to do a transfer of an AR pistol because the ACE enxtension had a threaded hole on the end which could accept a stock component.

You can always order a rubber cover from Exile Machine that covers the end. Out of sight, out of mind.

What a PITA! I had the FDE duracoat all ready to go to finish and assemble this thing this weekend. SUCK. Maybe I'll thread in a bolt and use red locktite and/or tack it to the buffer tube, and get a rubber cover.
