problem with my XDm mag: UPDATE:fixed. NEW issue

I'm getting failures to lock on the last round. From what I've read that means something is up with the mag. The guns shoots fine and ejects every single round but failures to lock on last round are happening more often. The mags are modified to accept 10rounds only so I'm thinking the metal plates inside are interfering with the spring. Is the spring going bad???

It's a possibility the stops are interfering with the spring. Try a different magazine with different parts and swap them around (although I think the follower is pretty much stuck in that mag now). Also make sure your finger isn't resting on the slide release.

I didn't even think about my finger resting on the slide release. It might be but with my m&p and cz, I never have that problem. when this occurs on other guns, does it mean the spring is losing tension??

Thumb on slide release is a big problem on the XDm. Its in such a natural place that you won't even notice you are doing it.

While I personally haven't experienced it, it makes sense as a possibility. check the thumb. If it happens again at the range, shoot left handed to help determine if it's a finger on the slide lock.

It's something that occurs a lot more often with the Sigs. Either way, it should be easy to diagnose.

I had the same problem with my sig. I was upset that all four mags wouldn't lock the slide back. Turns out I rest my thumb on the slide release. Now I have to make a mental note every time I shoot.

+200 if you want it here BIGTIME1. my mags are capped too and i dont have a problem with it locking back. i did read that the thumb should be watched for shooter with a high thumb grip. I shoot mine with a pretty high grip as well and practiced holding it over and over again and my thumb doesn't really hit the slide lock too much. i guess it just depends on whether you have a big thumb or not.

How does riding the slide lock cause a FTL? I can see that it would cause the slide to not lock back (XD owner here, been there, done that) but I don't see how that affects the loading.

I would suspect the follower is getting cocked on the modified magazines causing the round to nose dive into the ramp.

Ok there might be some confusion here. First let's try an figure out what the problem is. The OP states that the slide isn't locking back after the last round. Then he mentions FTL. Does he mean Failure to Load (the common meaning of FTL) or did he actually mean Failure to Lock...? I've never heard it used in those terms but I'm only assuming because he actually stated that it wasn't locking back after the last round. OP would you clarify if it's only a slide locking problem or has there been Failures to Load as well. Thanks!

                              Damn my bad
Yeah i meant failure to lock on last round. I use FTL in the WRONG way.

I've never had problems with the rounds loading

As I think about it more and more, I do hold the gun in a way where my thumbs come in contact with the slide release.
