    XD in 9mm, .40 or .45?

Having an active day here on Calguns...

I am being given the choice of receiving a Springfield XD in either 9mm, .40 or .45.

No need for a caliber war. I already have a Beretta, a HK USPc and a conversion barrel for my glocks in 9mm. I have .40 cal in Beretta, Glocks, and Sig. And a Kimber 1911 .45.

But I honestly know very little about these guns. For those who own them which caliber should I get from the perspective of handling, re-sale value, performance, etc. I know recoil is different for everyone and every gun fits someone else differently, I just would like to get some feedback before I place my order. Truly I am hoping there will be a consenus of something like this "Gun is good in 9mm and .40 but is exceptional in .45. or vice versa".

I wont have time to go to a range and rent one in each caliber before I have to declare so thanks again in advance for any feedback.

I love the XDs and rented each caliber a number of times before deciding I wanted the 9. I personally don't like the way it feels firing a large caliber round out of a polymer frame, and I'm way more accurate with a 1911 when it comes to 45. I would have ended up with a 4" service model in 9mm if I didn't come across a great local ppt trade for a 9mm XDm.

    Just my $0.02

Whichever you decide, get a Springers or PRP trigger kit. It makes a world of difference.

        .45 to stop 'em now.

9mm for cheap shooting an to stop them in 2-3 shots.

Are you signing up for that training with a free gun deal at front sight?

Anyway the only XD I've ever fired was the .45 and it was a sweet shooter.

40sw if you decide to go competition...you'll be right at minor/major and you can shoot both if you reload.

I had the .40 Service for awhile, it was a blast to shoot.

my .45 was very unreliable with anything but FMJ ammo.

failures to feed using several HP ammo, was really bad (1 every 30-40 rounds) with federal HST.

Do this! I shot a friend's XDM 45 with a Springer kit, I already liked my XD 45... this made it 10x better! It was amazing.

all three are great guns. the sub-compact .40 and .45 have a ton of recoil compared to the same in compact (more so than other guns).

if you reload, you can do .40 just as cheap as 9mm. .40's can also be converted to 9mm pretty easy.

any of the three will serve you well. Congrats on the FREE GUN!

Most civilization is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

wow, Ive had no issues with HPs. Infact my USPSA load is a 200grain hollow point, which I have has 0 issues in 2000 rounds of it. Lead round nose I have had serveral issues with it hitting the feed ramp wrong jamming nose up.

my XTP handloads, speed gold dots, and winchester PDX1 all ran 100% also. Maybe there was just an issue with that gun? Did you try calling springer, or diff mags?

btw, there is no subcompact .45, only compact, and on the flip side, the 9mm and .40 only come in subcompact, not compact. The 9mm sub is a sweet shooting gun.

I have all 3, .45 Tactical, 9mm Service and .40 SC. Right now my favorite is the .45, it changes from time to time. I am also more accurate with it, I dont know if it's that extra inch of barrel but I shoot better with it. Can't wrong either way.

                            Weird...

I use nothing but Speer Gold Dot and Federal HST Tactical for my HPs and they feed just fine, no issues. I have also tried PDX1 and Critical Defense with no issues.

As for FMJs, Lawman and Blazers work good with no issues.

I had serious issues with SWC bullets. Other than that, mine works fine with FMJ and HP.
