    John Moses Browning would agree.

Sounds like you fixed your problem after polishing the ejection port.

I'd like to see a picture of a polished ejection port. I've heard of polished feed ramps, and polished extractors, and lowerred and flared ejection ports, but not polished ejection ports.

Back on Colt 1911's; they're generally very reliable and accuracy varies depending upon how good the barrel lockup and bushing fit is. Typically the barrel fit and extractor tuning are good. Although many purists don't like the Series 80 firing pin safety, its hard to argue its not a good idea on a carry pistol. It just can slightly degrade the trigger pull, although most 1911's, Colts included, will benefit from a professional trigger job.

I personally would not choose a Gold Cup as a carry piece due to the fragile nature of their rear sight. They're infamous for shearing the pin the rear sight pivots on for vertical adjustment. My favorite for carry is a LW Commander although many prefer the full size Government Models in all steel.

Any pistol you purchase new should be inspected for abnormal wear or improper gunsmithing. Colt does have an annoying cosmetic anomaly that pops up quite often of off-center spring tunnels in the frame which causes slide rub between the dust-cover of the frame and the lower front section of the slide. This is still occuring even after the switch to CNC machining. Check this area carefully on any pistol you're looking at to buy.
"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
"What we get away with isn't usually the same as what's good for us"
"An extended slide stop is the second most useless part you can put on a 1911"

"While Ruger DA revolvers may be built like a tank, they have the aesthetics of one also,
although I suppose there are a few tanks which I owe an apology to for that remark"

id rather have a O1970CY Special Combat Government than a Gold Cup, especially since they're not making the blue Gold Cups anymore
