Single Stack CCW/home defense
I'm new to the single stack single action, but I fired a Government 1911 a while ago, and really enjoyed the experience.
I've decided to sell my fat DA/SA 92FS Brigadier, and I'd love to get a 1911 for the goal of CCW.
Issues:
1. California Database. I know I just follow the rules, but it really limits what I can look at, and there's no easy way to pull the 1911-style weapons out of their 1300 line database.
2. Safeties. I really like a manual safety, and I prefer a grip safety as well. I've used my friend's XD9 which has both trigger and grip safety, but I don't like the feel of the trigger. I want the trigger to only drop the hammer.
3. Size, Gun. I've got a 5" full size Beretta right now, and I can't imagine carrying it concealed. Its not only quite large, in thickness and in length, but also fairly heavy at 32 oz. I was thinking that a thin ~4" would be much, much better.
4. Cost, Gun. I have a limited budget, but that's helped by whatever I can get for the Beretta. I can't afford a $1000+ firearm for occasional range time and house. The target is $500-800
5. Cost, Ammo. I'd like to use cheap 9mm, but all the 1911 9mm, if they're in the PRC "permitted" list are quite expensive... so that looks like its out.
The standard .45 acp I prefer for defense, so maybe its for the best. I'll just have to eat the fact that its expensive every time I use it.
6. Extras. I'd love to have Tritium Novak sights and Crimson Trace grips, but I know that I can't afford it at this time. Maybe get the basics, and upgrade later?
So what I'm looking for is help/advice/brands to look at within these criteria, and any experiences.
