Kimber problems

I need help with my Kimber Stainless Compact its ejecting the brass directly to me hitting my cap and my ear, i read on line that to adjust the tension on the extractor but I don't see how you can do that with the internal extractor? any advises would help.

Press in on the firing pin, depress and pull out the firing pin stop, press down on the FPS plunger, then pull out the extractor to adjust the tension.

To check tension, field strip the pistol. Take out the FLGR, barrel, and bushing. With a live round, slip it under the extractor. There should be enough tension to hold it in place. Shake the slide up and down, the round should jiggle up and down but not fall out. If it falls out, it's too loose -> add more tension. If it doesn't jiggle, it's too tight -> reduce tension.

If your Kimber is new to you, try to first change the hand gripping style or brands of ammos. Also try to let someone with experience to shoot your gun and see if the issue is shooter related (e.g. limp wristing.) Only if all attempts fail, then try to adjust the extractor.

Is this a new gun for you or is this a problem that has developed recently?

IMO it's not your grip, it's the Kimber. Mine hits everyone who's shot it in the head. I'm not willing to be without "My Precious" long enough to have it fixed, so I just wear a hat and worn anyone who asks to shoot it.

This something that recently happened I thought I had to buy the tension tool but bending it out a little seems to have loosened it a little so I will know for sure next weekend

I was reading on line that it seems to be a recurring problem with compacts extractors and a few recommends a after market extractor

The case is ejected when it hits a stationary ojbect, the ejector. When a handgun is limpwristed, the ejector (and entire lower) is not stationary, it is rolling back and up. Without a stationary ejector to hit, the case doesnt get the "oomph" to kick out the way it should.

Brass getting kicked at your face is a result of the empty cartridge hitting the ejection port of the slide and getting kicked back at you. There are two possible causes of this; ejection timing or ejection angle (or both). Factors that contribute to these problems are numerous and need to be checked and eliminated to correctly troubleshoot it.

Ejection timing issues can be caused by:
Ammo too hot or weak for the recoil spring being used or conversely a recoil spring too stiff or weak for the ammo being used.
Insufficient lubrication
Improper grip or limp-wristing.

Ejection angle causes include:
Worn extractor springs or extractor if it is the spring (1911 internal extractor)
extractor channel needing cleaning
worn extractor hook
Improperly fit firing pin stop on a 1911 allowing the extractor to clock.
worn/loose ejector or ejector angle or ejector length
ammunition with out of spec rim for the extractor being used
improper magazine follower/worn magazine spring if failure specific to last shot

I had this exact same issue. Brass would eject straight up and land on top of my head. Send it back to Kimber, they'll tune it for free.
