Question about VZ grips for 1911. Suggestions/Pictures?

My one and only 1911 is a Dan Wesson CBOB that I got a while back. When I first got it I really liked the grips it came with but I'm starting to want a change in the grips. I have a few stainless revolvers that have black wood grain grips that I think look sharp and so I'm looking for nice black/grey 1911 grips for the stainless CBOB as well.

I've checked out VZ grips website and they have some nice looking grips but it's hard to tell exactly what the color schemes really look like from the photos. So far I'd like something in either black, black/grey, or black desert sand. I haven't been able to tell what the black desert sand really looks like though because it appears different in different photos.

I don't want grips that have a real aggressive texture and will chew up my hands after lots of use. Also, can anyone explain the difference between VZ's standard grips and the Slimline grips? How much width difference is there? Thanks

Here's a picture of my Dan Wesson CBOB how it is now:

Here's a picture I found online of someone else's 1911 that I think looks real sharp but I'm not sure which grips it has on it. Anybody know what these are? Feel free to post your own 1911 pictures, particularly if it's a stainless gun with black/grey/black desert sand color grips.

That Dan Wesson has stock grips on it if I'm not mistaken.
I voted against Obama before it was cool.

It looks just plain beastly and the extra heft up front does help manage recoil a bit better. Plus, an angel told me that when God called JMB to heaven it was to build him a full rail 1911!

Yes, it's my gun and the grips on it are the stock ones. The second picture is one I found while browsing the internet and I really like those grips. I'd like to find something like them to put on my Dan Wesson instead of the stock grips it has.

I have the VZ slims currently on the stainless springer in my avatar (shown stock). I ordered them because I put a slim profile S&A magwell on it and wanted to match the profile, which these grips do perfectly. Unfortunately I was also trying to solve another issue at the same time which is that I wanted to put my finger farther forward on the trigger which I thought I could do with thinner grips. Well, it did improve my reach but the lower volume in my hand feels odd so I'm going back to standard thickness grips with a short trigger.

Here's a pic as it currently sits-

Here's pic of Operator IIs on my Colt that I like better. I just ordered these for the stainless Springer in Black Desert Sand (same color as old grips)

So how much thinner are the slimline grips in width than the standard width ones? Do you have to change grip screws/bushings or can you use the original ones? Those Operator II grips look great, are they very rough? Also, is the Black desert sand black mixed with tan or is it mixed with white? It's hard to tell from photos compared to having them in front of me.

I seem to recall slim grips being about half as thick...but you have to change out the grip screw bushings (and use the shorter screws as well) to use the thinner grips. The originals should be loctited in there so you'll have to melt the loctite with a blow torch (think minimal exposure) or a heat gun before backing the bushings out. You'll also have to loctite the new bushings in as well (use blue).

VZ grips are great! I've been using the Aliens model for a while now and still love them. They're aggressive but not abrasive.

Are the grips in the first post Aliens? They look closest to the aliens pictured on the VZ website. Does your gun's grips look the same as that?

Here is a Custom 2 with Operator 2 Black Desert Sand. These grips look good on SS 1911 too.

Nice! The previous post looks great too. My mind is almost made up on what to get.
