    First 1911

No, this isn't a thread that asks "What am best gun".

I am going to be getting my 1st 1911 in the next week or so, and have narrowed the field. Based on all the threads I've read here, general consensus seems to be the Springfield Mil-Spec for a 1st, economical (sub $800) gun. Kimbers are usually discussed as higher priced, but generally good reviews too.

Now, my dilema. On sale this week are the following:
    Kimber Custom II for $599
Springfield Armory Mil Spec for $584.
Between these two, looking for recommendations.

I'd prefer the Kimber simply because of the better trigger, I'm also not too big on the Mil-spec sights. I personally think the Kimber is a level above the Mil-Spec models and is more comparable to the Loaded line. That is a very good price for the Custom II...is that the correct price?

Same here... are your price for the Kimber Custom II correct?

I would pick the Kimber Custom II for $599 for sure. Very good price..

You'll get many more options and doo-dads with the Kimber over the Milspec SA. Plus, a custom II @ $599 is a great price for CA.

            Get the Kimber

Whoa $599 for Kimber Custom II is really a good deal! They normally go for around $699. Damn I miss those gun ads in the newspaper (circa 1992 Trader sports)

The springfield frames are forged. I'm not sure what the kimber frames are, but if memory serves they aren't.

This would make the difference in my mind.

My first 1911 was a Colt Systema. Actually it's still my only 1911.

                      Great price for Custm II.
Mine (Custom TLE II) is accurate and wroking fine so far, except there was a little trigger creep, which I asked a Smith to take that off and bring down the pull to 4 lbs.

Kimber frames and slides are forged.....and, they are made in the USA (unlike SA.)

$599 is a smokin' hot deal for a Custom II. That is only about 20 bucks over the current Master Dealer price!

Great price, I paid $200 more for my Custom II at a Redding Kimber dealer. Wild Sports price is even better then Fresno Firearms advertised online price.

If it were up to me, I would go for the Kimber. That is a great price for a Custom II! I've heard some horror stories about Kimbers, but I believe that Kimber has worked hard to set things right.

As for a Springfield, I would prefer a Loaded model over the MilSpec. If it were between an SA Loaded and the Kimber Custom II, I would go with whichever was cheaper.

                            Good luck with your decision!
