    1911 HELP!

Lets see if we can't keep the can of worms closed here....

So I've decided to buy a 1911. Price range around $800.
I've narrowed it down to two weapons I've found for sale.

First option is a used Colt government model from the early 80's in stainless.
Looks great and comes with 3 mags; only upgrade is a wilson combat guide rod.

Second option is a Springfield Loaded in stainless NIB.
All the bells and whistles that come with the loaded model, including the 2 mags and holsters.

Now I can't decide between them, and I don't have the money for both...any suggestions?

The guide rod isn't an upgrade but rather a down grade (for a lot of people), stick with the GI plug set up. You can get a new Colt for only a little more than $800. Also, you'll most likely want to switch out the ILS in the SA so factor that into final cost. Both are good, I'd pick a Colt though.

I haven't seen any new colts for that price range. I also read that the earlier years for colt produced a lot tighter weapons. That the newer ones need some work before they produce the grouping the older ones do.

I'd be open to suggestions on another 1911 for around 800 if anyone can link me to a good one.

        Go with the Colt.

I wouldnt have picked either but if I HAD TO make a choice, I d go with a SA Loaded.

But if I were you.. I d save $300-400 more and get a used TRP. Its definitely worth it if you plan to do custom work on your loaded. TRP comes with magwell, checkered front strap, better fitting on barrel and bushing, slide to frame. and better trigger (I know I m forgetting something here). Its worth lot more then $300-400.

If you really like the Colt, get a Springfield Mil-Spec.
Will look just like the Colt, for a couple hundred less, leaving you money for ammo and parts. Plus you can upgrade other things later.
Hold the Colt in your hand and shake it. Should make a lot of noise.
                I'd get an SA Mil-Spec or even a G.I.

I know the Colt is from the 80's but is it a Series 80? If so get Springfield, if not (Series 70 instead w/o extra safety) get the Colt.

That's my hang up. The SA is most likely the tighter better gun, with less work needing to be done. BUT!!! just look at that Colt.

Then I have no idea why you would even consider the Springfield. Both would be better with work at some point, but the Colt is the more preferable starting point.

I figure the SA will need less work, but I could be wrong.
