HK USP main recoil spring question.

So, I was firing my HK USPf .40 pretty fast. Not quite rapid fire but a tad under 1 rnd/sec.

I was noticing an interesting thing about the weapon in that it did not "feel" like the slide was slamming all the way forward before firing the next round.

It wasn't inaccurate (well *I* wasn't terribly accurate, from 2" to 8" groupings while doing this) but it felt much different.

Is this normal when rapid firing a pistol? I wouldn't know since I've never done so.

The recoil felt substantially less than when I take my time and let the slide lock up fully between shots.

A note, I have about 8,000 rounds through my USP. Almost entirely factory ammo (blazer initially but ended up winchester white box for the last 6k or so).

Also, the USP's main recoil spring feels very weak compared to my SW mk.41 and my sig p220c. I'd say it was maybe 1/2 the resistance of the sig p220c's spring.

The gun will not fire unless it is in full battery. If it did then you would have a major safety issue on your hands.

Most likely it is in your head or you are anticipating the recoil as you shoot and begin to try and counteract it physically.

allso the USP can use a weaker main recoil spring becuase it uses a stiffer "buffer" spring to cushion the action.

      Thanks.

The best way to describe it is it felt like the slide was floating around. No slam forward, and no slam back.

      Uh.. I think I am just a rapid-fire newb =P

Mine feels like that sometimes too. I have an elite. Mine sometimes doesn't go into battery as the chamber hasn't worn in yet. I just give it a little tap and it slides the rest of the way.

You might want to double check the ammo youre using or make sure your firmly supporting the handgun

That sounds more like an ammo or limp wristing issue. Ive had some issues with ammo bros ammo in my USP match. For some reason they dont size down the brass enough.

The chamber isnt going to wear in that way.

The last gun show I went to I believe they were selling the recoil spring and guide rod for $75.00 they wouldn't sell just the spring.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

You can get a wolff (outer) spring replacement for USP's. I think it is rated at 1 lb heavier. It was just a few bucks (maybe 10). I threw one in my hardcase that carries my 45 elite...It may take a few years to wear the original one out though.

I have a USPc .45. I have noticed similar behavior. When firing fast, it seems to get smoother. I just attribute it to the engineering.

What a waste, it's not like the stupid guide rod ever wears out I've replaced mine once and it was an easy procedure. I waited way too long to replace it and was getting a lot of feeding problems when it was slap worn out. Took the 2 minutes it needed to replace it and it has worked fine since.
