The HSC is good for 5 years. It costs $25. If you lose the card, you have 2 options. 1) take the test again. 2) Go get a replacement from where you took the test originally.

Me, I did something else... I have never taken the HSC test. There are certain specific exemptions to the HSC...

Speaking about the exemptions.... I think I remember seeing that if you are "Honorably retired from military service" you are exempt. Does that mean retired military personnel or some was who was honorably discharged from military service...... New to purchasing in California and want to make sure I follow the "Laws"..... Thanks!

I think its only for retirees only not us one or two term guys. That's why I'm buying while I still got my card.

certificate my ***... certificates don't have expiration dates.

Wait until they figure a way to take the license away or add so many more restrictions until it is like NYC. I guess the BFSC card was only for the lifetime of the law, not my lifetime.

On a more optimistic level, you could just think of it as a 60 gun punch card if you can afford to buy one every thirty days.

Not necessary true, unless you never see anything interesting from private party sellers. If you want to view it as 60 "Dealer Handgun" punch card, then it's true.

The new HSC has more restriction then original BFSC. Your DD214 no longer qualify as exemption; your hunter safety certificate no longer qualify as exemption. Not sure if there are other BFSC exemption that's no longer valid under HSC.

The test is so darn easy that anybody who has a bit of intelligence can pass it. I was able to. . The fee of $25.00 is a bit of a pain though.

I have to agree, if you can't pass the test, then maybe you shouldn't be handling a gun... It really is just common safety sense. The $25 fee is steep though considering that it's more like a driver's permit thing... I don't mind the process, I just think that if we prove ourselves proficient at handling different guns, then why does the state get to pick and choose what we get?

Oh well, I guess I will do what I have to do.....

Yeah, I think the painful thing about it is paying $25 in addition to all the other fees Ca makes you pay.

Yes...I believe you can miss 7 out of the 25 which is waaaay too much. I personally think they should bump that down to 0 or 1. Like people said, this is common sense, if you can't pass this test then you definetly shouldn't be around firearms. Missing 7 and getting away w/ it is also pretty dam close.

Just for fun, can anyone remember any of the HSC test questions?

I like the one about how many beers you can have before handling a handgun.

Life can make you do many things, even kiss a man with a runny nose.

At $25 DROS fee per handgun that would also cost you an additional $1500! What a crock.

I'm 20 and I can take the HSC test right now and my father can let me borrow his Colt Combat Commander with written permission to take to the range right?
