    Springfield 1911 MC Operator

I just bought my first 1911. It is a Springfield 1911 MC Operator and I pick it up in 6 days. I bought it from a friend who used to take this on backpacking trips in a belt holster. The coating on the slide is chipped up a bit and it has an idiot mark on the side of the frame. Still I am very happy to pick this up. Can I send this to Springfield to have the coating on the slide redone? What is that likely to cost me?

You might as well get more work done to it if you're sending it back for coating at SA. Cost depends on what type of finish you end up choosing, as there are lots of options available through Springfield or other places.

So if it was your stock Operator and you are sending it back to SA what else would you have done? Basics stuff please, nothing too crazy exotic.

Checkering/serrations, internals upgrades, magwell, change sights.

At the least I'd have a Wilson BP extractor fit, get rid of the ILS for a lanyard loop msh, get a steel firing pin and get a tritium front sight if it doesn't already have it. I'd CONSIDER a match bushing and a trigger job depending on how the existing performance is. If the magwell isn't beveled I'd have that done as well. If you like the rubber grips thats fine...if not I'd consider 25lpi checkering or maybe even golfball texturing. If recoating I'd go with Black T instead of the SA coating...they'll send it off for you.

Agreed. Shoot it for awhile first unless you just need a queen for the safe
