    S&W Model 60

Anyone out there that owns a S&W Model 60? I want to get one with a 3" barrel for CCW. They look small enough and the reviews are 99% A+ on these. I do not want anything heavier for CCW. The best part is the positive psychological support I would get when I think of pulling the trigger and the handgun always fires without any issues. I am seriously thinking of buying a Model 60. I would shoot .38 +P not .357 in it.

Thanks in advance for information and reviews.

Don't overlook the Ruger SP101 .357. The 3" model weighs 27 oz. The 3" S&W 60 weighs 24 oz. (The spurless 2.25" SP101 weighs 25 oz.) The Rugers are great guns; a little bigger than a J frame, smaller than a K frame, built like tanks, and cost quite a bit less than their S&W counterparts. They're solid, fun shooters.

      Just my two cents.

They get good reviews. Like you stated, it weighs more but built well.

I have the SP101 (along with a Smith 442)...I'm a huge Smith fan, but if it's between the model 60 and the SP, I'm a bit partial towards the Ruger...it shoots great and the stock grips are fantastic...I also think it looks a bit better...quite an achievement for Ruger...I find most of their double action revos a bit on the clunky looking side..

3 day waiting period???? but I'm mad now!!!!!!

The SP101's get great reviews. I will need to see if they are too heavy for my CCW IWB. I want a 3" barrel and weight is an issue.

Since weight is an issue, and you don't plan to shoot 357s, se if you can find an old model 36/60 3 inch...it would serve you well...

                  +1.
the model 60 is 2x the weight of a model 360.
there are other j- frames that are much lighter than the model 60.

I just picked up a model 60-10. I,m going to give it to my daughter because she wants one like her moms. Its a nice gun but the DA trigger pull is real heavy something I personally don't like and I know my daughter won't either so I,m going to have to change it. Me I would get the Ruger because their just built tougher and I,m a Ruger nut.

I would like a 3" barrel and the added weight is actually a blessing for me regarding the conformability of shooting.

It must me gnarly shooting .357 round out of a model 360 that weighs only 13 oz. Ouch!

Model 60's are good for conceal carry if you don't mind the little extra weighthttp://

Honestly with a good holster and belt the weight really isn't much of an issue. I only find that the weight matters when carrying in a pocket. I routinely carry either a 3" SP101 or a 4" Colt Trooper OWB. The Colt rides a little higher on my hip is the big difference that I notice between the two.

Now I also pocket carry a 2" S&W M342Ti. Great for pocket carry, but if I am going to carry something on the belt, the lightweight and short barrel are of no benefit that I can discern. These same features are a hinderance if, God forbid, I have to use it.

                          YMMV

first, you gotta make up your mind what kind of ammo your gonna use.

second, figure out if your willing to carry a heavier pistol.

I do not wear a belt. I use a http://www.comp-tac.com/catalog/prod...products_id=95 with the 1 3/4" clips in the small of my back area. I think the model 60 is the limit for that to be comfortable width and weight wise. Using a Glock 27 in this holster at the present time.
