Self defense discussions?

I have been a memebr here for a while now.
Read a lot of stuff about single shot conversions, BB's, Cool AR's, Ca handgun list, Open carry etc.

How about stuff that deals with self defense ? CCW/OFF DUTY carry? Stuff that You read about in Combat Handguns magazine.

I, for one, am a little nervous about discussing self defense, in great detail anyway, for fear that , God forbid, I find myself in that situation and have to shoot, some dirt bag lawyer will find my comments and twist them into some sort of premeditated B.S. I do enjoy reading them though.

For instance, I'm a 14 year old girl, and my parents are away for the weekend. Oops, I just spilled milk on my top, I better take it off ... etc, etc... ie; The internet is full of BS when it comes to "identity".

PS. I'm a fat 42 year old guy, and that's not milk.

It happens all the time. Just look around.
Usually the discussions have quite a few people that say that they would do this and that but really have no idea what the hell would happen if it really came down to it. It is easy to type what you would do when your sitting behind a desk or on your on smart phone.

Take an IDPA class and learn REAL F'n QUICK how "prepared" you actually are for the real thing.

well said Soldier 415. Can't stand around trying to get a target sight picture. IDPA is a good training tool for safety and has some practical self defense included. There are a few areas where it is more of a shooting contest vs self defense scenerios. IDPA every station is explained in detail. How, when and where to engage each target. When to conduct a reload and how the reload will be conducted. Then you are told to give the signal when ready to engage the predetermined targets, in the given order. I am not knocking IDPA I enjoy it myself. I just think that it has gotten away from training for self defense and is more of a shooting sport. In a real situation you won't know when or where the threat will strike and how many threats you face.

More practical room clearing and shoot don't shoot scenerios would be a better training tool. No warning of the attack or home invasion will come when the SHTF, and we certainly won't say ready and let out time begin. When someone has to clear a room, or take a shot in a shoot don't shoot situation, it will tell more than running from station to station with the fastest time. Shooting targets when you know where they are and what the situation is prior to starting your run just shows you can remember how and where you are to shoot. In real life you make each decision in a instant. Shooting on the run allows us to be a little to relaxed when it comes to trigger control because we are on the clock and faster is better in these matches. Faster in your actions can get you killed if you rush into a bad situation and just blasting away. I know safety is big in these matches and that is great, but you can still set up a station every now and then where you get what you get when you walk in the door. No walk throughs the RO can stay behind and follow you through and see how you make decisions and then score.

Discipline and safety. Practice makes permanent, Perfect practice makes perfect.
