    Dehumidifier Gel

Does anyone use the tubs of dehumidifier stuff in their gunsafes?

I think one of the products is called "Damp-Rid", but I'm sure there's others. We've used it in a bathroom and it really seems to pull water out of the air.

I don't have power in the safe and would prefer not to mess with battery-powered dehumidifiers if this will work.

I think it would be better than not having anything in there, and as long as I change it out when it gets "full" (standing water) it should help.

Can anyone think of a reason not to put this in my small safe? (14 cubic foot)

Just go buy some Tidycat "Crystal" litter. Works the same. Just put some in a bowl.

That Crystal cat litter ain't exactly cheap.

I just bought one of the damp-rid things at WallyWorld for $3 something in a handy little tub with a perforated lid.

If nobody know a reason NOT to use it, I think I'll give it a shot. (I made a pun)

What's the "recharge" process? All the ones I've seen call for 150 degrees or so for 12 hours. For me, that's a PITA.

I bit the bullet and got the kind you plug in to recharge. Simple enough.

I guess it depends on how you want to do it. I $$$ was no object I'd just buy a new tub of dessicant every month or so. Of course, if $$$ was no object I'd get one of those fancy safes with a built in Goldenrod.
