Need help buying handgun

Im looking into getting my first handgun soon and was wondering if you guys could help recommend something. Im def. looking for a .45, but i want something at a decent price like under$700 that isnt a Glock (sorry guys just not a fan of glocks) thanks for your help

if your looking for something other then a 1911 platform the sig p220 ive seen used is excellent conditon for around 700 in the fs forum... ive shot the p220 and its imho the best .45 semi auto thats not a 1911.. everything from the trigeer to the single stack grip to the general feel of the weight and design make this gun to me amazing...

if your into the polymer persuasion look into the s&w m&p series or the springfield xds

Are you set on semi-auto or is a revolver a possibility?

Are you 100% set on a .45? If you'll be shooting a lot, other calibers will be less costly. 9mm is less expensive, i.e. you can practice more, and defensive rounds are still effective (though I'm sure some will disagree)

well im gna be doing armed security so itd be for work/carry? im not a huge fan of revolvers either so id prefer semi-auto and def 100% set on a .45

XD45 - I have the compact service version and I love it. Just don't like the way it looks compaired to Glock but I can't argue with the features and quality. It loves the cheap steel case russian ammo too.

^^^^+1 on the Springfield XD, or if you can get one xdm.... I have a glock, but the XDs if I'm not mistaken are a close second in frequency of department issue. They have very slick drop free mags, and function very closely to glock as far as tactical loading and handling..I'd wager most tactical training will focus on gun handling ala glock, so having a similar function would be a plus. And I agree they are better looking and just feel better....now if I was digging these out of my backyard sandbox I'd go straight for the glock...

Now that I got my little Fanboy post out of the way. The SIG P220 would probably be the gun I would choose if I was using a firearm on the job. Not to take anything away from the M&P, they are great guns, and with a little work and money will give any comparable gun a run for its money.

But out of the box, no added money or time invested, you will be hard pressed to find a better sidearm than a SIG P220. Durability, reliability, the Sig has delivered.



You may however find it above your projected price tag.

For $700 I'd go for a 1911. I'd say go used but if you want to buy new then there are plenty of affordable options such as Springfield.

Some Security companies may limit (caliber, type of action, etc) what they allow you to carry. So, check with them prior to buying.
