Side Arm Suggestions

Hey all I have just gotten into Armed Security and would like to pick up my own sidearm. I was originally looking at the M&P and XD but prefer a hammer to a striker. Besides being a striker I really did not like the feel of a glock in my hand, which is completely out. I am most familiar with firing and the workings of the USP but wanted to remain open to other pistols. I was looking at the FNP, Beretta PX4, or Sig p226. The calibers I am certified to carry is a .40 and .45.

Any suggestions or opinions on these would be great,

All three pistols you mentioned have good reputations, I would go for a .45, one that has ten round capacity. Just my opinion.

Sig p226 over Px4 Storm any day of the week on a firearm that I had to trust my life with. Now I know, there are reliable PX4's out there and some have fired thousands of rounds without so much as a hiccup but time and experience is on Sig's side with reliability. Completely my own opinion and has about as much scientific fact as a ant fart but it is what it is...

The HK USP are great guns had one for years the only thing I didn't like about it was the safety. In combat situations after you draw the pistol and go to take the safety off it is easy to decock it instead. Not a big deal you just get a double action that you where not expecting.
The Sig 226 is also a great gun. I don't like the fact that it will not fire without a mag in the well. Beretta's are great guns don't have a lot of experience with them. What ever you do don't buy a cheap pice of crap your life may depend on it.

Thanks for the replies guys...I guess the only way for me to really tell is to go to the local shop and at least hold each one. I am leaning towards just picking up a USP since I am so used to it but have also read someone commenting that the FNP is the "poor mans" USP and everything I have seen it looks amazing.

However if I go with a .45 I am limited to the USP or Px4 since FNP 45 is not on the list and the p226 does't even offer it.

I will have to double check at the range Thursday but I am fairly certain the P226 does not have a magazine disconnect safety, hence one of the reasons that newer models of the Sig P series are not on the Roster.

The P220 is essentially the same as the P226 but chambered in .45.

I went and looked at the firearms and really liked the look and feel of the FNP. However it felt really light...those of you that have experience with it how is the recoil compared to the USP?

I don't know about the USP, but it shoots smoother than my XD, Glock, and P99

I don't have the experience and knowledge that others have here, but I do like the 96FS Beretta's .40 cal. Put a few rounds through it over the weekend. I got it's cousin.. the M9A1 and love it. You could always look into the 96A1 or the 90-Two.

However you need to get what fits best in your hand. You don't want to be pulling the pistol out to save your life and have to fumble with it.

If you don't like the safety on the HK USP line of handguns, you can take it off....converting it to their LEM trigger.

I really like it. Research it...it's basically a hybrid DAO and SA trigger...giving one the best of both worlds.
