Serious competitors do shoot a ton. 1 top female shooter said she shot 1,000 rounds per day the entire month prior to the Steel Challenge. I have a buddy who was shooting 10,000 rounds a month a few years ago. His open gun had 150,000 rounds on it and 2 barrels.

I'm an upper level guy but I only shoot about 15,000 rounds per year which includes rifles and shotguns. I also go through about 5,000 22's. I compete in USPSA (open, limited and production divisions), ICORE (Revolvers only), Steel Challenge and 3-gun.

If you want to get better there's no way around putting rounds down range.
Good price on the brass, I'll look into it on the next round. How the heck did his barrels last so long. I thought most pistol barrels had a life expectancy of 30k or so, but that may only apply to mass produced stuff.

When I shot bullseye, a 2700 at least every other weekend= 270 rounds + equal that during the week for practice. Mind you that was three calibers, .22, 32S&w or 38Spl, & 45ACP. Still shoot 50 to 100 rounds a week. In Bullseye most loads are mild for accuracy at 25 & 50 yards. Barrels last forever.

Interesting. The +P is "a heavier duty material" but the price difference per 500 is only a buck. I don't get it either.
          It's fairly cheap, tho.

At any rate, for me, I just don't see ammo cost/availability as a major drawback. I'd probly get a little more aggresive policing my brass, though.

          I'm a casual hobbyist & I'll agree with that!

It kind of depends on what you put through them.. I have a revo with in excess of 120k rounds.. but in my case, only about 1/3 of that is with full power ammo.. the last several years all it has ever shot is mostly minor loaded ammo utilizing lead bullets.. It has likely less than 2000 rounds of jacketed through it..
