    springfield 1911 cut recoil spring....

After disassembling my "new" used springfield I found the recoil spring appears to be cut. Maybe this is why it racks easier than other 1911's i've used....lol.

Why would someone do this? Should I replace it before shooting?

    Thanks!

They did it to make it easier to rack by hand or to shoot low power loads through it for competition. If you are going to shoot full power loads through it then change the spring before shooting it or you will beat up your gun.

If it was cut to make out easier to rack, that's the wrong way to do it. It could have been done to prevent coil stacking.

          Springco are another popular option.
Supposedly 10x the life of standard springs.

I've got one in my RIA and am very happy with it.
