    Importing "Single Action" Handgun

Single action revolvers (that meet some minimum length requirements) are exempt from the CA DOJ drop test and don't need to be on the "not unsafe" list. Anyone want to take a shot at this one?

Given the creativity and perseverance required to make changes in the AW & OLL area, shouldn't this be a slam dunk?

I think you just have to remove the double action sear or some such to make it single action only, then it won't matter if it's on the safe list or not. Just have the seller mail the sear with the gun.

      I agree.

The good thing about this gun is that it was manufactured from the start as a SA and says so on the box. I think the hitch in getting an SA like this or doing as you described is not DOJ, but finding an FFL who understands the specifics of the law or who simply does not want to go through the additional DA sear removal step.

DA sear removal would have to be done before the gun hits CA. This could be done by contacting the seller on a case by case basis in advance (if doing GB) and asking if they're willing, or by using an out of state FFL holder as a stopping point before the gun is shipped to a CA FFL holder. Obviously these steps add cost, but I think it would still be cheaper than paying what we pay in state now. And eventually, as all those Smiths hit CA the PPT prices come down.

BTW - I'm certain that when I go to OR next week I'll visit my favorite gun store, find & buy a Smith for transfer and be able to have the DA sear removed in about 10 minutes. Then transfer to CA FFL dealer. I don't see any problem in that approiach.
