Just got my first Colt Python! *updated photo*

Congrats. That is one pristine Colt. I'm picking up mine this weekend. No box or original grips like yours and it's a 1980 not a 1969

But it's in excellent shape. I had to hunt down some original grips online. The grips go for a pretty penny, especially when your trying to find one from the right era in good shape. Even though it's not NIB like yours it's going to be tough bring myself to shoot it. Maybe I'll shoot this one and someday find one like yours to stare at.

NICE!!! I was lucky enough to get one from my father. We should start some sort of Colt Python shooting club. I have a 6" nickel plated from the 60s. No original box or grips on mine. Looks like a trigger plate was put on at some point. Shoots straight as an arrow. Just sucks that there aren't any newer sights out there that will fit it .

Beatiful find indeed. I know the feeling regarding making a decision to shoot or not. I have a very clean 6" also, no box though. Like to find a 4" shooter that in a condition I wouldn't worry about.

Isn't the 4" Python a little more of a collectable because they aren't as common as the 6"? I'd do the complete opposite. Shoot the 6" and hold on to the 4"

$1,400 is a great deal. To bad it wasn't available down here in SoCal.

i dont know.. but the 6" looks better to me.. since it is all original.. never fired.. the guy in the shop said he could get me $2500 for it..

and its beautiful!! the guy i bought if from said it was 95%-98%.. this gun is 100%! never been fired..1969 original box, grips, papers... the gun shop said they have never seen a python come thru this clean..

I have a 1981 Satin finish stainless steel 6" Snake I purchased in 1996 for $650, I use it as a shooter, and no it ain't for sale, but your blue snake sure makes me want one! -<

Hmm let me think. Personally.... i'd say about 600. Like i said my father owned it before me and his uncle before him. But the gun is in amazing shape. I stick to shooting .38 with it more so then .357 mostly because of price , but a bit because of less recoil.

I'm right there with you, i would be a proud member of the python shooters club.. heck i may even run for treasurer next year.

I have both 6" and 4" Pythons. Finding a 4" in excellent condition was definitely harder than finding a 6" in the same condition. While I think the 6" versions are prettier, I like the balance of the 4" the best for shooting.

Most of the 4" versions seems to have been purchased as duty guns/shooters by LEO back in the revolver duty gun days, so if you look dilligently you should be able to find a 4" shooter eventually at a lower price.

congrats, nice score. Pristine older revolvers are getting harder and harder to find, getting it with the box is an added bonus. The box alone is probably worth $150
