Stainless Makarov

I have a buddy that has a stainless steel Russian Makarov. He's interested in selling it but really doesn't know what it's worth. I told him I'd see what I could find out but I haven't seen enough of them to get a good idea of their price. They seem to be rather rare. As far as I can tell, it seems to have been used little, if at all. Anyone have an idea what it's worth?

Are you sure it's stainless? Not electroless nickel?
I've never even heard of a stainless Mak; but I've seen E-less nickel from the factories before. If it's actually stainless... weird. And rare.

There were a few Russian stainless Makarovs that were imported in .380acp.

Sorry, I should have mentioned more. It is a Baikal IJ7017AS .380acp imported by B-West. It is stainless, even the clip (not sure how many clips he has, didn't ask). The first picture is the gun except for the grips. His say Baikal on one side and made in Russia on the other.

I was born and spent the first 16 years of my life in Ukraine, so I saw every cop in town with one of those PM's (Pistolet Makarova) in a big ugly hip holster (later on they started carrying AKSU shorties too). What everyone (including cops) said about the Makarovs was that the only thing you could shoot without missing was your own head. To me this gun has the coolness factor of 0, no matter how rare the stainless version may be on this side of the Atlantic.

Not sure what you mean by Makarovs being inaccurate - the barrel integrated into the frame is inherently more accurate than a system where the barrel is part of the recoil driven mechanism. A competent shooter can make it accurate - I've seen it done.

PM is still a workhorse handgun of Russian military and law enforcement - my friend qualifies with it every year, at 50 meters no less.

If they were using .380acp (9x17) versions, then I could understand the problems...
A little too underpowered for the original design and if they kept the original barrels, they'd be a little oversized too.
Neither condusive to good shooting.

All the regular 9x18mak pistols I've ever shot have been tack drivers and very reliable.

I'm pretty sure those B-West guns are just plated. I use to have a hicap blued B-West mak and I saved old magazines that had makarov ads and articles. I could swear the the silver looking maks are plated (from the ads) not stainless but they are still very cool. Mark

I Just Missed Buying It. It Had The Box & Manual
It Was A-ij70-17as Imported By B-west.if You Dont Want To Buy It I Would.

I've got a .380 Makarov, and it's pretty durn accurate. Trigger's long and springy, but the mechanical accuracy and reliability are great.

I'd love one in stainless...

Go to www.makarov.com and ask the same question of value on their forum, I am sure you will get a satisfactory answer a lot quicker...

I have owned three different Bulgarian cheapy Maks and still have one of them. At shorter but equal distances, I can shoot tighter groupings with my Mak than my Kimber 5" or my Glock 35 with aftermarket barrel. The only problem is I will only be able to shoot about 40 rounds before the web of my griping hand is so sore that I could barely hold the gun anymore. Still love this little gun though...

Your hand is probably getting chewed up where the top of the grip meets the frame, along the backstrap. I had the same problem too! Try going to an aftermarket grip, I'll bet that cures your problem.
