The SR9C and SR9 I looked at didn't seem to have a mag D/C. I am not certain but with the mag out I pulled the trigger, saw the firing pin start protruding from the rear of the slide and at sear release the firing pin slammed forward. Sounded and felt and looked the same as when I had the magazine in the gun. Is this just how mag D/C functions or had someone already removed it?

To the OP: Why are you looking for a gun that has a disconnect?

Browning P35 (Hi Power) can have a nice trigger with mag safety if the right gunsmith gets his hands on it.

The Ruger SR series employs a firing pin block which prevents the pin from connecting with the primer when a magazine is not present. You'll still feel and hear a "click" when pressing the trigger, as demonstrated at about 3:30 onward in this video:

Removing the mag disconnect on the SR9c is as easy as removing the striker.
But it doesn't affect the trigger pull when the mag is inserted.
