Anyone ever try to convert a pistol to 7.62 Tokarev?

I have no idea, I just learned about the little thing a short while ago. I just thought it might be a nice modern platform for the Tokie.
My real question is finding a pistol that can be safely converted to fire that cartridge. The handling for a CZ52 is less than great.WTB: Winchester /Miroki 1895 .30-06; No1. Mk. Digging up an old thread from a search because I want to know too.
Did a google search and the closest thing I found was a recomendation to try a 1911 w/ a .38 super slide and magazine, and somehow sleave a barrel to work with it. But there were no specs or sources.
Idealy I'd like a source for a strait drop in barrel for a Glock or other modern handgun.

Can you tell me where to get the parts to build up your potential STI, or who could do it for me? I'm not looking to spend 4k on a racegun, but if the concept is sound, could it be made to work in a RRA or other basic 1911?
PS. 7.62x52 is pretty cheap (less expensive than any 9mm I've found), but not as cheap as it used to be. But what is these days?
Thanks.

AIM Surplus has 1,224 round cans for $120. For 10 cents per round, that's about the cheapest centerfire ammo today."If a man hasn't found something worth dying for, he isn't fit to live." - Martin Luther King Jr.

If a CZ 52 pistol can be converted from a 7.62x25 Tokarev to a 9x19 with just a barrel change, then is going the opposite possible for say a Glock 19? Same bolt, guide spring and mag, and just swap the barrel? e.g. like I convert my XD back and forth from 40 to 357sig with a simple barrel change.
Any one email EFK Firedragon and ask if he will add a 7.62x25 drop in barrel to his product line? I bet he'd sell a bunch. I'd be in for a group buy, then handload a batch of Tokes with some 30 cal to 223 sabots and make a nice zombie varmit pistol

Noooooooooo, on the 9x19 to 7.62x25 barrel swap.
the 7.62x25 cartridge is a very high pressure, very high power round, most pistols are not up to handling it.
aditionally it is significantly longer than the standard 9x19 round, and will not fit in a standard glock/xd etc magwell.
just because you can fire 9x19 in a 7.62x25 with a simple barrel swap doesn't mean it works the other way, (just because I can shoot .22LR in my AR15, doesnt mean I can shoot 5.56 in my ruger 10/22)Comment

I'm thinking about something like a 1911 or a Glock 20. 7.62x25 should fit in a 10mm or .38 super mag shouldn't it? There are 1911s converted to .460 Rowland , .45 Super, and .400 Cor-bon, so I'd think there'd be one out there that could handle it.Noooooooooo, on the 9x19 to 7.62x25 barrel swap.

Ideas anyone?
I'll pursue the EFK Firedragon suggestion, although I have no idea who/what that is. Time for more Google fun.Last edited by JeffM; 12-21-2007, 12:01 AM.

Actually, even the 1911 magwell is too short front to back to fit the Tok round. If you have a chance to examine one that was converted by the VC, you will see that the interior of the well has been hogged out (roughly) to paper thin thickness in order to accept the crudely created magazines they used. I "think" the magazine bodies "may" have been based on Tok shells, but I could be wrong.
In any case, a Tok 1911 is a no go unless you want to indulge in some pretty daring redneck engineering. A possible candidate might be a .357 Coonan or one of the .45 Win Mag Grizzlies, as the magazine bodies are long enough, but you would be all by yourself insofar as making it work. I cannot think of any gunsmith willing to try it without a serious infusion of cubic greenbacks.
Not to say it isn't a cool idea though. I, for one, have always wanted to convert an M1 carbine to 7.62 Tokarev, and understand that this has been done in the past.......in certain Asian countries like Korea and Vietnam!

Thanks Otony!
So I'll cross the 1911 off the list of posibilities.
What about a DA revolver? Or even a SA. Ruger had a Blackhawk in .30 Carbine. Could a simple cylinder swap work with it?
I'd prefer a DA, but a new barrel/cylinder/gun smithing involved would be prohibitive, unless someone does this on a regular basis as a package deal.
