    S & W 2nd Model HE

I just bough an S & W 2nd Model HE in 455 Eley - got a very good price on it ($300.00) due to a cracked hammer stud (the pin which the hammer pivots)so that must be replaced. The hammer stud screws into the frame, Numrich Arms has the hammer stud @ about $2.00 per.

I would like to know the procedure for replacing the hammer stud - as in, is it remove the old, screw in the new then do some final fitting? To replace & remove requires a special type screwdriver. Does anyone know the name of the tool & where to get?

If anyone has done this I'd be very interested to know how difficult the procedure was - I'm very good at knowing what I can & can not do. Gunsmiths in norther CA are hard to find & I'd rather not spend about $80.00 shipping to S & W if the fix is within my skill level.

You are probably going to need an ez-out; you can pick them up at Osh. In order for it to work you will need to drill a hole into the hammer stud from under the side plate.

I'm not a gunsmith, however, I replaced the hammer stud on a S&W New Departure. If your hammer stud is the same type then this may work. I soaked the area with penetrating oil for a few days. I used a small screw driver, that fit into one of the stud's notches, placed on an angle and began to tap it, while someone held the frame in place. It worked and simply screwed out. Did same to replace it and it works. Good luck.
