Handgun Registration - The Bottom Line

Okay, every time a "Do I need to register my guns" thread comes up, I always see the response "Long guns do not have to be registered".

Now I understand that much already,however, there is never a mention handguns needing to be registered, or not registered. DOJ Website states that registration of handguns only apply to "personal handgun importers", which need to be registered within 60 days of said importation.

My question is, is there a handgun registration requirement for current residents of CA, either buying new from FFL, or PPT from one resident of the state to another?

Since

both of those must go through a CA FFL, and
CA FFLS must use DROS, and
DROS info sent to the State is registration,

the answer is "yes" - but it isn't something that the buyer or seller does, and there is no associated paperwork back to the new owner indicating that 'registration' is accomplished.

So registration takes place automatically when the DROS is filed. Didn't know that.
