    Ruger SR40

Anybody own one? What's the reliability situation on this pistol? I want a reliable semi-auto handgun made in america, not a fan of the M&P.

price isn't a issue, however I wasn't aware of any other semi-auto manufacturers other than S&W and Ruger

The SR40 appears to be a very successful firearm. Came out after the SR9 and with all of the corrections that Ruger made to the SR9, mainly an improved trigger. Shot one and really liked it. The only reason I haven't picked one up is that I have decided not to go with .40 cal.

A buddy of mine bought one a while back and has put around 1500 rounds through it without any trouble. I've shot it many times and it only has a negligible amount of increased recoil over the SR9. I like it a lot, especially the trigger, ergonomics and the fact that it's made in the USA. It will definitely be my next handgun after my SR9c.

Head on over to rugerforum.com or rugerforum.net. They have a lot of info and threads on the SR40 and are really helpful.

I do own the SR9C and love the gun. SR40 is based on the SR9 so I'm pretty sure it is just as good.

              I own both an M&P .40 and an SR9.
The SR9 is actually starting to grow on me, after a couple months of wondering if it was a good purchase initially. (originally bought it for my little girl, so she could upgrade to a full-sized 9mm)

When I got it, the trigger was horrid....very gritty and heavy. The recoil spring is also super heavy, and it was difficult to rack the slide.

However, now, after installing the Ghost trigger, some judicious dremel polishing (fluff & buff), a detailed field strip, cleaning, and lube.....and a few hundred rounds of break-in.....it's really growing on me as a good gun. I have small hands and the balance seems just right when doing double taps, etc.

Curious what you don't like about the M&P though. As I mentioned, I own an M&P .40 also, and feel it's an overall better gun.

People who own Rugers for the most part just love them. With that said, I at present own 5 ruger guns and have not had a problem with amy of them. But if I did Ruger Costumer Service is top notch and really easy to work with.

The SR 40 from all most accounts is a quality firearm for a very reasonable price. Turners has them in their Spring flyer for just over $429.

I have both the SR9 and the SR9c. Both shoot very well and the C for its size has just a fraction more recoil than the fullsize, it is one of my favorite semi autos to shoot. I do want a SR40 and its on my list I just have to stop buying these old Ruger revolvers. I just brought home a Ruger Redhawk 7 1/2" blue and Thursday put some money down on a Security Six 6" blue. I think I,m a Ruger nut
