Another AR handgun question

If I am buying a brand new oll, do I have the option of requesting that it be DROSd as a handgun, or must the manufacturer designate it as one? And if I do, all handgun rules apply? 10 round mag, no bullet button, no forward grip?

You can only get a fully assembled ar pistol in a single shot configuration, unless you have an exemption to the roster. You can't just buy a stripped receiver.

A second question about it. Let's say I buy a OLL from an online dealer and have it sent to a FFL who does single shot conversions. Can I have that dealer build it into a single shot and then transfer it to me as a pistol?

Normal FFL dealers (Type 01-FFL) can not legally manufacture a stripped reciever into a handgun.

FFL dealers licensed as manufacturers (Type 07-FFL) can legally manufacture a stripped reciever into a handgun.

So, you will need to utilize the services of a Type 07-FFL for what you want.

Magazine is outside of the pistol grip, you will need one regardless of centerfire or rimfire.

No waiting. No paperwork. Just some drilling, finish work and a drill press.
Still needs BB and only ten round mags.
Building these things can be more addicting than rifles.

They have to add THEIR FFL INFO to the lower ALONG with the original manufacturer info that's already on the lower.

The best advice I can give you is buy a complete AR pistol, then customize it to how you originally wanted it. Sell the upper buy what you wanted etc.......

$35 for an 80% that's an incredible deal. $35 usually gets you a raw forging. Most 80% lowers run in the $75-$100 range. Here's a good web site entailing what needs to be done to make it a 100% receiver as well as part(s) needed to do the job-
