Shipping a handgun

I need to ship a handgun for repair. Who do you guys use to ship? I get nothing but grief from the shipping companies. Whenever I call in, they always say that handguns can't be shipped by a private individual. Only after I talk to a supervisor do they say its okay. My added problem is that I am 70 miles from the nearest UPS or FEDEX center so I usually have a driver pick-up for weapons. UPS says I have to take it down there to be packaged by them. What a pain!

Check the UPS requirements. It does state you need to bring to their center - not a UPS store. It also needs to be declared, sent priority next day. Besure to ensure. The cost will be about $50-60 total to send- assuming you are sending back east.

You can ship a firearm from your house if you have an account, I believe.

I package it very well, take it down to my local UPS store, declare as... something other than a firearm, and ship it next day air. Never had a problem.

You will if your gun turns up missing or lost. UPS may inform you that their tariffs were not followed, therefore, they wil not be responsible to cover the lose. Not following their Tariffs regarding handguns may also be a violation of state law, as I understand the law requires you following the requirements of the shipper.

Check the UPS site on requirements for shipping a handgun.
1) must be shipped from their main site - no 2nd or 3rd party such as the UPS store or Mail Boxes Plus.
2) Must be declared as an handgun
3) must be shipped next day.

I just recently found out these were the requirements based upon this question on another forum.

I only use FedEx. As long as you are shipping the gun to an FFL/Manufacturer they're fine with it.

I've only had a couple "issues" with an uneducated FedEx clerk who instantly tells me I can't ship a pistol when I tell them what's in the box.

I've shipped pistols like this at least a dozen times without any problems.

The shipment has to go overnight according to FedEx rules. That's what I want anyhow so it's not a problem. If you're a cheapskate you might not like that part.

Never used anyone else so I can't speak to UPS.
