A good friend of mine found a SW .38 Special CTG Model 10-5 on a Rental home he owned 17years ago. He found it inside a medicine cabinet. He want's to get it papered and possibility of selling it. He will give me the serial# later today and will post it here to further assist on determining the value.

How would he go about getting this firearm registered or getting it back to the rightful owner IF it's reported stolen/lost.

I believe it's pretty easy. There is a form for it. Il guessing the form is on here and it's been referenced numerous times. There is a $19 fee, and unless the gun is reported stolen all will be fine.

YES. I'm really not sure what the whole story is to be honest. He wants to do the right thing in regards to this firearm.

I'd go to the Smith and Wesson forum ( http://smith-wessonforum.com/ ) for information on the gun and its value.

There is no requirement to register the gun in California. So all you need to do is make sure it wasn't reported as stolen.
