I shot one the other day at the range, felt good. I saw one for sale here for $475 but I'm just not a 1911 guy, I like my Poly's
.
Have a great gun carryin' Kenpo day

Just to clarify, it needs a loaded chamber indicator and a magazine disconnect to be added to the list. There will be no more 1911 style pistols of any brand added without these...
It's a shame - they get good reviews and would be another option for inexpensive 1911s.sigpic

Wait, are S&W 1911s California approved? I am a revolver guy just getting into 1911s and didn't know about these rules. Damn this state.Smith & Wesson 17-6, 586-7, 66-2, 681-1, 36, 27-2, 640

Yes but you will have a very very hard time finding a PT1911 already in CA, and private party transfers can only legally be completed between to CA residents.
Some of the S&W models, yes. S&W makes top notch revolvers, but their autos have never earned the same acclaim. Theres nothing wrong with them, they just never earned the reputation of being exceptional. By all means look to S&W when you get a 1911, but there are a number of equal or better 1911s on the market, so don't buy a Smith just because it has the same logo as your revolver (unless thats what you want it for).

i shot a s&w 1911 (not sure what model) along with several others (SA, Kimber, colt, para) and it shot really nicely. much better than their sigma series. can't really speak of the longevity of their 1911 but it was a blast to shoot and for me was more accurate. but since i'm a SA fan (lifetime warranty, and i love my xd) i'd probably go with one of their models.CRPA Lifetime MemberComment

I've handled them and was not impressed. I've heard reports of quick finish wear, and other malfunctions/issues, but then I've also heard reports that they hold up well and are decent pistols. (Would lead me to believe that their main issue, like their other pistols, is quality control & consistency...)
That said, I don't own one, I've just handled a few and put 100~ rounds through one, so I'm no PT1911 expert. One of the best 1911 smiths I know was there and handled them as well, and he described them with some words I will not repeat in such a public place, needless to say he was far from impressed.
It doesn't particularly matter because we won't see them on the market in CA anytime soon.Comment

I don't think Taurus does themself any favor with the add that lists their "custom" features as adding up to about $2,000.00 and you get all that in a $600.00 gun. I've handled one once and it struck me as an OK gun for the price.GOA Member & SAF Life MemberComment
