First Range Test with Beretta 92fs

Well, I finally was able to break from work and family commitments to test shoot my new Beretta 92fs. Wow! Great results from the first shoot. The main finding is that the fixed sights are right on the money, just like was the case with my old much loved Model 84. I am no great shot, but I am quite pleased with my first shot group with the new pistol at 33 feet:

I was thinking about putting adjustable sights onto this pistol, but frankly the factory fixed sights appear to be dead-on. I don't know how Beretta does it. My Beretta Model 84 is the same way.

Update 4/10/2011 -- Took the 92FS to the range Saturday and put 100 rounds through her. She fed impeccably and ejected very nicely to the side; no "in your face" ejections. Groups remained tight despite my 3 cups of morning coffee.

The Beretta 92FS is a real shooter's pistol. I am extremely impressed with its accuracy. The action has a smooth, precise feeling that is hard to describe. My one diss on the pistol is that if you fire the first shot double action, it is a long hard pull that I have yet to master. On SA it is a joy to shoot.

I'm a big fan of Berettas myself. My step-dad has a 92FS and it shoots wonderfully. I have a PX4 Storm and it's an amazing shooter. The DA trigger pull used to get me too. But I would just practice and practice it time after time. For a whole magazine, shoot only DA. Also, get some snap caps and practice at home. It's free to practice there and every shot is DA. Another trick is to place a coin on the slide, shoot in DA with snap caps and see if you can keep the coin in place. However I'm not sure how you would do that with a 92FS. I'm to the point now where when I look at a target I can't figure out which shot was my first DA shot. It will come.

The 92fs is a nice shooter. I think I still shoot it better than anything else I've tried.

About three years ago my son and I were at the range. I'm shooting a nice, tight, centered group at 15 yards. Guys in the next stall look over and ask my son, "What are you shooting?"

                A Beretta, he says.

                PX4, the ask?

                No, 92fs.

"That's some really nice shooting," they say.

I'm thinking, "cool." Then my son say, "yeah, its hard *not* to shoot the 92 well."

                Thanks, Pal.

33 ft? Nice groups for that distance! Well done!
