Shot-out GLOCK

99.9% will never see this. It's good to know for buying a used Glock or diagnosing someone with the below tell tale signs. These are my targets/pistol, not images taken from somewhere else.


At 7 yds. rounds will begin to go in sideways, as evidenced by this target.



This very distinct line will be on top of the chamber area. This pic doesn't do it justice, it's very definitive. You'll see some high mileage Glocks with wear here, that's not a big deal, but when its like this and the bullets are tumbling- time to look at the barrel.

I can't get a good enough pic of the inside of barrel to post it here, but it will be SMOOTH! I mean no noticeable lands or grooves/hex cuts.

Bad ammo can also cause those keyholes.

It is not uncommon for a Glock to crack at the forward end of the ejection port. It will immediately throw the rounds sideways. And another problem is where the recoil spring rests in the nose of the slide, it can crack. Either way its a slide problem and not a barrel. I have had 3 cracked slides in the last 15 years. Never shot a barrel out, although I did rip the barrel lug off of my first G21 somewhere around 100,000, but it was still accurate. Key holing at close range is usually ammo.

I have a gun that is missing a large percentage of rifling in the first third of the barrel, yet is still a tack driver. Barrels may be reaching the end of their service cycle around this point due to wear in the overall fit. The longevity of the barrel fit will have much to do with how it originally fit in the gun. The better the fit, the longer the barrel will tend to last.

True. It can wear out just as anything, but usually the slides and other components will wear before the barrel does. But I can't say because I shoot exclusively lead cast. so mines still look new seem though it seen more them I can count.

There are various reputable instructors and competitors out there that shoot 50,000 to 100,000+ a year and share their experiences. On this board you're probably in the top 5% of how much you shoot but there are those who shoot a ridiculous amount on a constant basis.
