    Slide Release Issue w/ M&P40

Before I call Smith and Wesson and address an issue to them regarding my brand new full size M&P40, thought I'd get some insight and/or advice from you fine people of Calguns.

I just purchased a brand new M&P40 it does have a mag disconnect safety. First of all, it shoots fine and so far seems reliable (only put 100 rds through it)
the only issue I have with it is when I fire the last round in the magazine, the slide locks back and when I 'quickly' insert a fresh magazine fully loaded with 10 rounds the slide goes into battery on it's own, I guess this would be useful if I were in a hurry and taking fire but I don't think this is normal nor is this suposed to happen.

It doesn't do it when I slowly put in the magazine or when the magazine isn't fully loaded. I've considered contacting Smith and Wesson, but I really don't want to wait months to get my gun back.

Also, what type of aiming system does this pistol uses? 6 o'clock? or do you cover the target with the front sight dot with a proper sight picture?

    Thanks!

Do a search on this.. you'll find that it happens quite a bit with glocks and other firearms- your M&P included.. It's not a design feature, just a physics issue with inserting a magazine with "so much" force..

as far as the aiming system goes, I can't remember.. It's a modern service gun that's produced en masse, its' not meant to be a tack driver nor are the tolerances from gun to gun always going to be the same... however, 3-4 well aimed shots should sort it out..

If it were me, I'd count it as a plus and leave it that way..

I think all guns should go into battery if you slam a mag in, better than flicking the slide catch or doing a racking motion. Just my opinion tho
I'm banging the chick in my avatar, think I can get a CCW now?

Yeah my m&p does this too. Also my Sig if I slam it hard enough. I wouldn't worry about it but its your call.

I have seen other posts regarding this being a feature the gun has. I actually like this as well! Kind of reminds me doing rapid fire with my M16 tapping the weapon hard to make the bolt go home! Awesome!!!

It was discussed about a week ago, long story short is that if you quickly insert a mag at the right angle of many handguns it will happen. Some are easier than others but include the M&P, 92FS, Glocks, some H&K's etc...
My opinions are my own and do not represent the position of other companies I may be involved with.

Thanks for all the input guys, I'm beginning to look at this as a positive, if I can just find the right handle and "agressiveness" required make it happened everytime would be good, hot reloads

Keep it that way, I'm going to have to use more force on mine to see if this occurs as well.

This is part of the design of a "military and police" type weapon. It eliminates a step in the reload process. Slam it every time and itll happen every time. There is an angle way to do it too, but i havent had to worry about the angle. It is a bummer though when you get used to it and then all the sudden it doesnt happen. Train both ways.
