Walther P-1 Ejection

I got to shoot a Walther P-1 pistol yesterday. It was lots of fun. One thing though, it tended to eject the cartridges right in my face - thank god for tight fitting eye protection. As I was watching others shoot the pistol, it seemed like some cartridges were flying to the left and backwards, but most were flying to the back right into the shooter.
Is this a common "feature" of these pistols? Can anything be done about the ejection profile? Maybe a different spring?

Yeah, Walther P-38's and P-1s tend to be inconsistent in where they eject... Some like to shoot straight up and back, others off to the side some.

I'd be willing to bet that fine tuning to the extractor might help some, though I'm not sure. I've never been one to fuss about such things. lol

Mystery solved!
The cause for the rearward ejection pattern was the loaded chamber pin. With the pin removed, the pistol consistently ejects to the left and a bit to the rear.
It's nice to come back from the range without a dotted forehead,

P-1 definitely has a weird ejection. As a lefty I like having brass go left. But probably once or twice a range visit, it bounces one off my forehead.
