I would try to get a good deal on a used Springfield GI or if you go up to $700 you might be able to find a used Kimber.

i just picked up my ria gi... around 500 otd.

i used to have the tactical version, but just doesn't fit me quite right. i like the gi look better, and shoot it more too. even though the sights are hard to see, and the hammer likes to chew on my hand. guess that makes me a sucker for punishment.

on a side note, i used to have a kimber and always shot left. just got back from the range with my ria and was putting whole mags in 2 inches dead center... when i take the time to look at the sights that is.

yeah, for that price range, you will get the most with RIA Tactical. I shot my buddy's RIA and it was just as good as my SA Mil spec.

Robby at golden state tactical can get the ria tactical for 469 before fees. Will put mine in 10 day jail next week.

You can't go wrong with a RIA. I just got my GI out to the range yesterday and between handloads from a friend, remanufactured ammunition, and brand new winchester white box it was both incredibly accurate (I was dinging steel at 50 yards 6 out of 8 rounds regularly, and went 32 rounds without a miss) and extremely reliable with no FTF/FTE's through its first 200 rounds.

I thought I might want the tactical for the extra goodies, but I absolutely fell in love with my GI. I picked mine up for $425 after paperwork/fees.

Edit: I picked it up new.

Ria is great but SA GI or a used mil spec would be good. Great guns.
