    Gun defense

Who here has had to actually use there gun in defense of the home, person, or property? I can't imagine this scenario plays out very often or am I wrong???

Not many people actually shoot intruders or attackers; several 100 times a day a gun actually PREVENTS a crime or an attack. Those are the events you never hear about.

By the way, in California you cannot use a gun in defense of property.

Fewer people are killed with all rifles each year (323 in 2011) than with shotguns (356), hammers and clubs (496), and hands and feet (728).

I had an intruder on my property to other night. I hit the buttons on my gun vault and grabbed the 229 and the sure fire. I successfully defended my property and scared off the intruder with no shots fired.

According to this website, there have already been more than 609,000 defensive gun uses in the US since 1/1/2011.

I'm glad you didnt have to fire. Some of my friends think you have to but honestly if you convince them just with the presence of a firearm, thats enough for me. Glad I havent had to do so yet.

That should make for a good explanation when the cops show up. I shot him in the balls so he wouldn't come back.

Thats not the most smart thing in the world. I dont think most gun owners here look forward to, or hope for an encounter. This is my favorite hobby and its for defense but frankly shooting someone after there leaving isnt my plan, nor should it be yours. Besides, blowing off his junk would probably make him come back, after all, if you lost your junk and you knew the person who did it, why would you not lol?

The only time you shoot is because you fear for your life. And you better shoot to kill so they can't come back with a lawsuit to say otherwise. Also it's a big no no to shoot to wound them. After taking my ccw class ive learned your in a better situation to kill them rather then wounding them on purpose.

Well said. I hate that some people are pumped for encounters, its just foolish and I dont know anyone who "liked" having to either.

I have. Had a guy pound on my door and then stick his arm through one of my windows one time in the middle of the night. I pointed my rifle at his face. He went away. Cops arrested him down the street. He was on some hallucinogen.

I had a guy come into my house when I was sleeping. I had gone to bed early and I am pretty sure he thought no one was home. For better or worse, I grabbed my Beretta Model 84 380 semi-automatic and charged down the stairs at him. He probably heard me rack the slide, as he took off like a bat out of h***. I did not shoot; it was clear that the gomer was bugging out. Having that gun in my hand was the best feeling you can imagine. Since that time I always have a home defense gun ready to go. Having a gomer in your house, invading your space, is a very crummy feeling that is hard to describe.

The SOB had been trying to pull my TV set out of the wall. He made off with my watch and remote control. He never came back, you can be sure of that.

One of the reasons we have a dog in our family is his 'early warning' capabilities. I don't know of a normal burgalar who would chose to enter a house with a barking dog.

Lucky he just got your watch..and a remote.

I had a cruising sailboat down in Mexico for a few years. One thing we learned was anything not chained down got picked clean overnight.

Most of the 'pickers' were poor teenage boys, looking for a quick score. We used to leave a 'bait grab' just inside the companionway door. If we locked the hatch someone would use a Pry Bar and cause a bunch of damage to the teak/fiberglass....which would cost more to fix in time and money.

What we did was close the hatch and leave it unlocked. But just inside the hatch on the countertop we put a cheap watch, a 10 dollar bill, several ones inside that 10 all folded up with a few other cheap trinkets like a fake gold chain..all in a neat little pile that the crook can just GRAB AND RUN with.

In 2 years it did get taken only once. And no damage to the boat and no electronics were taken.
