    glock 23

    my fellow calgunners,

i'm faced with a little dilemma, getting either a gen 3 glock 23 compensated or a regular gen 4 glock 23. i need some constructive advice on which to pick. please stay on topic (im tired of comments about single shot exemptions. i know what it means ).

    thanks.

I am getting a G22 after my 1911 is done. In any case, the G23 is a fantastic gun, I just like a bigger gun for my hands. You thought about just getting the Gen 3 to avoid the single shot hassle?

the gen 3 is just cheaper by using my gssf discount.

Don't like compensated pistols personally so I voted Gen 4. I would rather get a regular gen 3 though.

Or wait awhile till Glock fixes all the kinks out of the Gen4.

There's not that much recoil in the 40.

I was about to say, unless you do drop in .357 barrel rounds, then why get a compensator? Even then, your replacing the barrel, just go non compensated regular barrel and get a standard Gen23. I found the .40 to be somewhat snappy but nothing bad, and I'm sure the difference with a compensator isnt huge. Although it does make it very loud it seems like people are saying.

My Gen 2 was my primary carry gun for most of the 90's. I went to a Glock 30 but I still pick up that G23 and it fits my hand like a glove.

Compensation? Nah, ever do close order drills? You'll go blind firing a compensated handgun close to the chest.

My personal inclination would be an uncompensated Gen 3 - I don't think compensated carry pistols make much sense, and if it's for range use, I'd go with a long-slide version. I get the impression that maybe they haven't worked all of the kinks out of the Gen 4's yet.

But of the two you mentioned, I guess I'd pick the Gen 4.

First of all, Glocks are ported, not compensated. 2 different actions. The muzzle is compensated (attaches to the end of the barrel) and the barrel is ported in this example. A ported barrel is just a barrel with holes in it, a compensator is a series of complicated cuts to direct the gas downward and backward. By the way, porting always reduces muzzle velocity.

im just quoting the glock website. you might wanna send them an email.

                      "C" Models

                      "GLOCK compensator pistols are
                      equipped with an integrated
                      compensator, rendering the weapon
even more controllable during rapid fire
and allowing an improved hit pattern.
The compensator consists of two longitudinal
openings in the barrel and slide of the pistol
arranged in "V-position". This minimizes front
                      sight blackening through powder gases."

thank you everyone for your input. i ended up getting a glock 23 gen 4 even though its slightly more expensive.

the "holes" on the top of the slide does prevent me from doing close to the chest drills. thanks for reminding me.
