    Dan Wesson PM7 Range Report

    Hi All,

This is a follow up to the thread I started the other day. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=414752

I got to take my new to me/used Dan Wesson PM7 to the range last night. I ran 100 rounds of the Walmart Federal FMJ ammo through it. 0 FT anything. This thing is a freaking tack driver! It definitely changed my perception of 1911's. My only previous experience with a 1911 was On Target's rental of the Springfield Mil Spec... the difference between my DW PM7 & the rental is night and day! I can truly say this 1911 is more accurate than I am. My first mag, I had a grouping of about 2" from 10 yds out!!! Of course throughout the 100 rounds I had a few strays, but when I concentrate & do what I'm suppose to, the gun is dead on, more accurate than I am. wow is all I can say. The trigger is crisp, no play, slide is tight.

So when I finished the 100 rounds, I decided to shoot the HK P2000 .40s&w that I got about a month ago just to compare. The first thought that came to mind was that the HK P2000 trigger felt like mush... compared to the DW PM7, I might as well have been shooting a shotgun, that's how bad my groupings were & how bad I was shooting the P2000. I'm trying REALLY hard to like this HK, but the DW might have just put this P2000 on the for sale market.

Here are the pics I posted in the previous thread.

congrats on the new (to you) 1911. I just bought my first one and can't wait to get it out of jail...it's just a Springfield Loaded with some minor upgrades. Can't wait to get it and test it at the range.

PM7 was what converted me to 1911 religion. Good choice!

Unless you are shooting bolt-action rifles, most any other trigger will feel like mush after a good 1911 trigger has been experienced. Congrats on the PM7. More practice and that 2" group at 10yds will shrink a good deal more.

Btw, you'll be just as accurate with the P2000 but you will have to remember it is a very different trigger.

A DW is about the only big buck 1911 that interests me. I REALLY would like a PM7. The finish just does it for me.

Now if we could just get 'em to effen quit cuttin' up the front of the slide...

thx... I'd love to have more range time, but having 3 kids under the age of 6, only allows me to get to the range about once a month.

I love my Sigs & I'm use to the DA/SA trigger, so the P2000 shouldn't have been so bad...but the results were night & day. I may just have to only shoot the 1911 or only shoot the Sigs/HK on each particular range trip, that way, my muscle memory doesn't get confused & my targets won't look like I used a shotgun...haha

Yup. My RIA Tactical is no DW but the effect was the same. Every other trigger feels like moosh...

              ..except for my S&W wheelguns.

Just took my PM7 out for the first time 2 wks ago. Ran like a champ. The only downside was failure to load with the slingshot on the full magazine. It needed a little nudge from behind twice. I figure she's tight from being new and that prob will go away soon enough.

My experience has been the same...

When I asked for help here on CG for selecting a nice value in a 1911, DW was suggested many times. Initially I brushed them off. Eventually after more reading, I bought one - and now own more than one. Great guns, built and fitted extremely well.

A little advise; don't fondle a CBOB, or you'll own it for sure

                          Congrats!

My first and only 1911 is a Dan Wesson CBOB and I had the same impression the first time I shot it. It's my nicest semi-auto for sure. Everything about it is quality from parts to the finish.

Before I ever became interested in getting a 1911, the first time I saw a picture of a Dan Wesson I knew it was the 1911 I would want if I got one. Simple yet elegant with the quality to back it up. I still have the desire to get a RIA tactical and a Sig 1911, but if I never do I'll be perfectly satisfied with just the Dan Wesson.

Congratulations on the purchase and having good taste.
