Springfield Loaded .45 ACP Range Report

I finally got my Springfield Loaded to the range today and I thought I'd share my initial observations with this weapon.

The presentation and goodies in the hard case are a nice touch. On the other hand, I will never use the plastic holster or mag holder. The included magazines look like GI jamamatics and I will never use them either.

I field stripped the weapon and thoroughly cleaned it. The weapon was very difficult to reassemble, as there seemed to be no way to keep the guide rod spring pushed in far enough to drop in the barrel bushing. I personally hate the FLGR that came with this weapon and I will change it post haste.

So off to the range... I used 2 Wilson 47D 8 rounders and one Act 8 rounder borrowed from my Smith 1911. The Springer plowed through 50 CCI Blazers with no issues whatsoever. I have heard of the sights being off on these but mine shot exactly at point of aim. The trigger was fairly crisp, although slightly rougher than on my Smith 1911. I think that it will break in nicely.

I had one FTF on my second box, which was Winchester 185 grain white box FMJ. The pistol was blameless here because the round was out of spec and would not feed on the second or third try.

Regarding accuracy, one ragged hole at 7 yards was the norm, and I am no crack shot. At 15 yards everything was within 2 inches and centered. All shooting was done standing freehanded on an indoor range.

Overall, this is an excellent base pistol that just needs a little tweak (GI Guide rod and better magazines) to be completely awesome.

As with my other reviews, this is unscientific and offered merely as one shooter's 2 cents.

    Thanks for reading!

I simply bought a spring cap and removed the long portion of the full length rod and have no binding issues at all with guide rod spring. Don't waste the money on a GI guide rod IMO.

Awesome. As soon as the price of .45 drops, I'm getting one =). Guess I'll be waiting a while ;-)

The price of .45ACP dropped by two thirds for me recently- I started reloading!

It looks just plain beastly and the extra heft up front does help manage recoil a bit better. Plus, an angel told me that when God called JMB to heaven it was to build him a full rail 1911!

That's a beautiful 1911, I should probably go buy one.

Oh wait, that's right. I just did!

                Nice looking weapon..!

                Thanks for the report..!..

Does your guide rod have a small hole in the side?...On several of my 1911s I just compress the spring and shove a piece of paperclip into the hole; after the bushing is in place, pull the pin. Just wondering if you have the same set up..

                Enjoy!

Bought my son one of those in stainless for his 21st birthday. Needless to say he was a pretty happy camper.

Nice report, i cant wait to pick mine up next Tuesday and taking it to the range on wednesday night. I saw a video on youtube on disassembly and assembly of the loaded model and you can use a small flat head screw driver to hold down the guide rod spring while you turn the bushing. I thought that was pretty neat.

I ended up just getting a barrel bushing wrench for $6... made my life MUCH easier...

It is still very difficult to disassemble and reassemble even with a barrel bushing wrench. And the SA Loaded does not come with one. BYOBR!
