How to determine a gun's value?

Yes I searched already. I have a Ruger P97DC semi-auto in .45 that I want to sell or trade in on a Sig 9mm.

I looked on the Kelly Blue Book web site, but you have to subscribe for $15, and they didn't have the exact model listed.

Can anyone give me a ballpark figure, or guide me to a resource where I can find it?

It's a Ruger P97DC with a stainless slide and polymer frame. .45 with two 8-round mags, case and speedloader.

    thanks

the true monetary value of a gun is what someone is willing to pay you for it.

Put it up for sale in the Calguns Marketplace.

Make a list of offers received.
            Take the highest offer.
            Double it.
Sell it on Gunbroker for 10% less than that number

Interesting pricing formula but I'm not sure how workable it is.

I usually try to take an average of Gunbroker Prices (ones that actually sold) and Calgun prices for a particular gun. That should give you a good starting figure. Add maybe 10% to that and lower if necessary. It also depends how quickly you need to sell. If it sells too quickly, you probably priced it too cheap.

@ALSystems - good advice on searching completed auctions. I never thought of that!

gun broker pricing doesn't always reflect California pricing. Also consider that thru gun broker the buyer still has to pay shipping, a fee to the FFL for receiving the gun and tax on the purchase price. This bumps the pricing you find on gun broker by quit a bit.

I recommend checking your local FFL's to see if they have a used gun like yours and price it someting like $50 less. Don't include any accessories because you basically end up throwing them in for free. Sell them here or on ebay.

The way I price my guns that I bought new is like this....I take $100 off the new sticker price or $200 off the amount that it cost me after tax and dros. Both usually work out to the same figure. Even if it's unfired it still counts as used. Any accessories I include are only to sweeten the deal.

For guns I bought used thru private party I usually ask the same as the seller was asking.

Didn't know the market place was an auction site. Thought ya had to post a price up front?

Pretty sure the decocker only version is non roster. People who want the DC would probly pay more for it.

For pistols, I've always priced the gun at $0-50 off the price I paid, but I usually price its accessories at 50% off the price I paid. I usually try to bundle gun + accessories together.

This formula seems to work well on Cal guns. (Also, I noticed that pistols on Cal guns can be sold for higher price than gunbroker.)

And the best way to see what someone did pay for it is to use the advanced search and search for closed auctions.
Open auctions can be relisted if someone won't bite on the asked for price. Closed auctions (assuming it sold) will show not 'what someone hopes a person will buy for', but will show 'what someone did buy for'.

You do... but you're going to get 50 PMs offering you anywhere from 25% to 75% of your asking price.
