    New Mag Issues

I bought two new factory mags for my PX4 9mm. At first I couldn't get either to fall free when releasing the magazine at all. Now they'll fall free every time if the slide is closed, but with it open they seem to just disengage and hang. Every now and then they'll disengage and fall properly but it's not consistant. If I lock the slide back with rounds still in the mag and try to disengage it won't even budge and I have to manually remove the mag. I'm testing all of these scenarios with snap caps. My original mags have none of these issues whatsoever and I don't remember them ever having problems. I'm going to be shooting my first IPSC this weekend and I would like to avoid the embarrassment while competing. Any advice?

The mags drop free when the slide is closed because there's pressure from the spring against the slide stop. Sounds like the new mags are "bulging" when they're loaded. Check the dimensions of the new mags against the old ones, especially the front to back.

BTW, mags not dropping during a match isn't embarrassing, it's just a pain

I'll have to measure them when I get home but I'm fairly certain there the exact same. I say that because they function perfectly like my old ones do every now and then. It's lime it goes in spurts. I'll do 5 reloads with them perfectly then the next 5 will hang. I can't figure it out. It has gotten better the more I play around with it. Is there such thing as magazine break in?

There can be. I'm not that familiar with your magazines, but on other guns, if there's a burr where the mag catch fits, it gets removed with use. Sometimes even just polishing the mag helps. If it's an occasional thing, you'd be surprised what a difference 1 or 2 thousandths makes.
