When I was working for an FFL, next to expired licenses, the most common reason a DROS was rejected was the address didn't match the address of record at the DMV.
(It used to take at 3 - 4 days for a dealer to get notice from DOJ about not releasing the gun.)Comment

not to rain on anyone's parade, but the 4473 asks for your current address... pretty plain and simple.
if you don't follow directions don't advertise it on a public forumComment

I recently went through this hassle again. FYI, requesting a new registration card with my new address took SIX weeks to come. I ended up going to the DMV and getting the brown change of address card that they stamp. They just gave it to me and stamped the date at the walk up, check-in window. A lot of places (like Turners) will require that change of address card from the DMV rather than an online change of address from the DMV website.Comment

I had to show my car registration at turners when my CA DL was the old address. No problem.

The inconsistency amongst stores is a little frustrating. My current residence doesn't match my DL and one dealer only wanted a recent utility bill (reasonable in my mind) the other required something from the state (I had a piece of tax paperwork that they accepted). It seems to me the latter is a bit much.Comment

I don't think FFLs can accept the brown change of address cards as valid proof of residence anymore. At least that's what they told me.Comment

If the utility bill was government-issued then no problem. The inconsistency amongst stores is a little frustrating. Question 20.b. Alternate Documentation: Licensees may accept a combination of valid government-issued documents to satisfy the identification document requirements of the law. The required valid government-issued photo identification document bearing the name, photograph, date of birth of transferee may be supplemented by another valid government-issued document showing the transferee's residence address...Jim
