    Buying a custom pistol

I would like to possibly buy a custom made pistol sometime in the future. I realize that there is the approved list in California, but with this list in affect... is it even possible to buy a custom made pistol?

Or is this something that falls under the order --> FFL --> single-shot conversion?

This is my dream pistol.. for now

You pretty much answered your own question. Yeah, if it's not a DOJ list pistol then you need to do a single shot exemption. OR you could get a base pistol like a Springfield Milspec and send it to the smith of your choice for a custom build....which definitely isn't a bad idea!
