    RIA 1911 Help

So i went shooting today i have put about 600 rd down the pipe on this gun.. this problem just happened today.

when a round is chambered some times i have to use my finger to push the slide all the way forward like (2mm or so) a guy at the range told me my slide feels a little spongy... dont know what that means.. never did that before.. My gun is full size tactical model by RIA.. Can any one explain to me whats happening and how to solve this problem?

I am shooting factory 230 gr ball ammo, and i did clean my gun and the same problem is still happening.

    thanks

    Try a different brand ammo.

Sounds like the RIA is beginning to run dry and "Tighten up". Disassemble gun and clean frame/slide rails, along with barrel collar, then lightly lube with synthetic grease (Slide Glide, TW25b or light weight synthetic bicycle grease)

BTW, RIA 1911 is a lotta' bang for the buck!

Could be a bit dry, could be the ammo.

On mine I had an issue where it basically locked up. Turned out that the barrel link pin was loose, moving side to side and causing the pin to bind in the frame. I didn't bother to send it in, I just lightly staked the pin and have had no trouble since. You should definately check for that.

        Good luck.

Happened to me at the range. Take some oil and oil your slide, if your at the range. Cleaning it and properly lubricating it would be your solution. That should resolve your problem.

If you cleaned it recently take your slide apart again and clean and lube it well and then check your spring. If a slide feels spongy it usually means you are under sprung or the spring is wearing out.

If this is a brand new gun I doubt the spring is going bad but I'm sure if you take the slide off you will find like others said it is running to dry or something is out of place.

It depends on when your RIA was made. The newer versions come with an 18lbs recoil spring, the older with a 16lbs spring. Might want to try an 18!

              Good luck!
